A series of blind contour line drawings attempting to draw the borders of homelands and promised lands.
Fixing eyes on the outline of the model, the contour is drawn as a continuous line without lifting the pencil or looking at the paper. The method was popularized by Kimon Nicolaïdes, an American artist and art teacher, one of the first camouflage artists enrolled during World War 1.
The project Several Attempts at Drawing the Borders of Homelands and Promised Lands was originally realized for the Moscow Biennial for Young Art, 2010, Globe(E)scape show, curated by Daria Pyrkina.
The performance “Several Attempts at Drawing the Borders of Homelands and Promised Lands” was presented at the historic synagogue of Pesaro in 2012.
The performance does as the title suggests both literally and metaphorically through a continuous drawing and redrawing of the borders of homelands and promised lands while simultaneously recounting stories of the search for the promised land.
