About Nathaniel Katz
Nathaniel Katz
Nathaniel’s work-whether focused on the individual’s relationship with technology or with family-originates in personal narrative.
Currently I am interested in an individual and collective voicing of desire for community and for relationships. I take these utterances and give them multiple forms of expression and dissemination. Taking desire away from its original mode of communication to test its voice, effectiveness, metaphors and resonance.
I experiment with the assumption of sincere roles in enacting relationships and visions of community. I am interested in the possibilities this opens for participatory projects. My work often enters into the public realm with me acting as facilitator inviting participation. In that act of momentary surrender to a collective action I aim to create a temporary loss of self and a sense of the possibility of community.
One of the goals of my work is to put a representation and an enactment of community in relation to the community of art. To instigate the community of art into a self reflexive dialogue provoked by other manifestations of community.
