macbook pro crash

my macbook pro crashed.
well…
it starts up in safe mode but with 16 lines under the cursor as if it is carrying a text file in indesign.
when i start it up regulary it hangs on the blue screen.
i followed suggestions in the mac forum to run the 10.5.8 combo update twice without repairing permissions in between.
no luck.
i deleted all but admin user.
no luck.
got rid of all startup and login items.
no luck.
any suggestions?
